FAQs
Sizing & Fit
Sizing & Fit
How do I know which ring size to order?
Sizing is the single most common question with ring splints, and we've made it the easiest part of ordering. Every kit ships with a printable sizing card, and you'll get a link to a short fitting video in your order confirmation. Measure in the afternoon, when your fingers are their usual size, not first thing in the morning and not straight after exercise. If the fit isn't right when they arrive, we exchange sizes free within 30 days.
My fingers swell throughout the day. Will they still fit?
Yes, and this is exactly why we chose soft sterling silver instead of rigid plastic or aluminum. The silver is malleable enough to open slightly wider on a bad swelling day and tighten on a better one. Most customers adjust their splints a quarter-size either way depending on heat, hormones, or a flare-up. It takes five seconds with your fingertips, and the silver holds the new shape until you change it back.
How do I know which of my fingers actually need splints?
A quick self-check: rest your hand flat on a table and look at it from the side. Any finger that bends backwards past straight, collapses inward at the middle knuckle, or twists sideways when you grip a mug is hyperextending and will benefit from a splint. Most customers start with the index and middle fingers (the most common offenders) and add more over time as they feel the difference. If you're unsure which sizes to order, send us a photo and we'll help you decide.
Silver & Durability
Silver & Durability
Are these real sterling silver? Will they turn my finger green?
Real 925 sterling silver, the same standard used in fine jewelry, hallmarked and hypoallergenic. It won't tarnish with daily wear, won't irritate sensitive skin, and won't leave a green mark on your finger. The cheap plated copies on Amazon are copper or brass underneath a thin silver coat that wears through in weeks. Ours are solid sterling silver all the way through.
Will they bend out of shape over time?
Sterling silver is the material of choice for ring splints because it is soft enough to bend-to-fit but strong enough to hold that shape for years. Cheap aluminum wire, plated brass, and plastic splints crack or lose their shape within 6 to 12 months, which is why customers who tried them before upgrade to silver. You can open and close ours thousands of times without metal fatigue, and customers regularly tell us their splints are still going strong 8 to 10 years later.
Are they hypoallergenic? I have sensitive skin.
Yes. 925 sterling silver is one of the most skin-friendly metals available and contains no nickel, which is the most common cause of jewelry allergies. Customers with eczema, contact dermatitis, and a long history of reacting to costume jewelry wear ours without issue. If you can already wear sterling silver earrings, rings, or a necklace, you will be fine with our splints.
Conditions & Medical Questions
Conditions & Medical Questions
Will they work for my condition?
Our customers wear them for Ehlers-Danlos and hypermobility, rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, swan neck, boutonniere, trigger finger and mallet finger, and the general joint instability that comes with years of typing, knitting, or playing an instrument. If your finger bends backwards past straight, or gives way when you grip a mug, a ring splint is designed to stop the motion at the joint. We always recommend talking to your hand therapist or doctor if you are unsure about a specific finger.
Do I need a prescription or OT referral to order?
No prescription needed. Many customers tell us they waited months to see a hand therapist, or paid $150 to $300 per private session, just to be told 'that joint could use a splint.' Ours are designed to be adjustable so you can fit them yourself at home using our sizing card and fitting video. Bring them along to your next appointment if you like, therapists usually approve them on sight.
Are these FDA-approved or classed as a medical device?
Our splints are positioned as supportive jewelry, not a registered medical device, and they are not FDA-cleared. That matters because medically classed ring splints cost $100 or more per finger through a hand therapist or specialty supplier, usually with an OT appointment required. Ours deliver the same mechanical support, preventing hyperextension at the joint, without the prescription pathway or the price. For a complex condition, we always recommend consulting your doctor first and bringing the splints along for their opinion.

Will anyone notice they are splints at work or in photos?
Almost certainly not. Our customers regularly tell us that colleagues, partners, and even their own rheumatologists have complimented their 'rings' without realizing they were splints. No bulky plastic, no visible hinge, no medical look, just a stack of slim silver bands. You can wear them to meetings, to a wedding, to a job interview, and the only comment you will get is where you bought them.
Can I shower, sleep, and wash dishes in them?
Yes. Sterling silver is waterproof and safe in water, and many of our customers wear theirs around the clock. Sleeping in them gently supports the fingers against overnight hyperextension, which is why people often notice less stiffness in the morning. Showering, hand-washing, cooking, and cleaning are all fine. The only time we would suggest taking them off is for activities like weightlifting or contact sports, where the silver could get scratched or bent.
